Challenge Statement
Welcome to Mount Hope Baptist Church! We’ve been a part of this community for
175 years, loving God through service to Him, each other, and our neighbors. In
the early years, Mt. Hope was the center of the community. It was where
families came to worship, socialize, and work together. In those days, this area
was a small farming community. Now, Ashburn, VA is a thriving suburb in Loudoun
County—one of the fastest growing counties in the nation!

The small addition that was added on fifty years ago is no longer adequate in
2010. Mt. Hope needs to expand and update the facilities to meet the needs of
our current family and embrace our expanding neighborhood. Unfortunately, a lack
of space has limited many of the services we can provide.

Several years ago, after much prayer and consideration our church family moved
forward in faith toward construction of a new building. It has required a
monumental undertaking of time and costs just to acquire the necessary approvals.
But with every barrier, God has revealed His unwavering power and dependability.
Now, a 2 million dollar price tag looms on the horizon. To us, this is a staggering
figure, but to God, it is immaterial. It is simply another opportunity He has given
us to demonstrate our faith and to see His great faithfulness.

Part of faith is taking risks – stepping forward into the dangerous un-known,
trusting God’s love for us and His desire to strengthen us in new ways. Just as
David stepped boldly forward to meet Goliath with only a sling and a stone we can
also step forward to express the same vulnerability and dependence on God. Many
of the Mt. Hope Church family will take a drastic leap of faith on Sunday,
September 12th as we celebrate our 175th Anniversary Year. As an expression of
faith, and because we want to better minister to our growing community, we will
make an unorthodox move. Want to know more? Check back often to see what’s
going on. Better yet, come and join us for our Celebration at 11:00 am, Sunday,
September 12th, and stay for a cookout, games and a very special event (see
details below).

Things have changed over the last 175 years, but the Mt. Hope family will
continue to provide a place to grow, love, serve and share. We’ve stretched
ourselves as far as we can and know we can’t finish it on our own. In faith, we’re
asking God to work extraordinarily in our lives and to touch the hearts of those
who hear our story, trusting that He will provide a miracle.
